The Transfixion recounts the hidden years and the public ministry of Our Lord, and above all His Passion and Death, in which the sword of sorrow pierced His Mother's soul. The Coronation contemplates her final years as Mother and Teacher of the infant Church, her happy death, and her Assumption and crowning as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

Woven throughout are the counsels given by the heavenly Queen herself for the profit of every soul. Thus the whole Mystical City recounts the exaltation of the Daughter of the Father, the Mother of the Son, and the Spouse of the Holy Ghost.
